Crew Introductions

I thought it was about time you folks met the crew! Every week we are going to spotlight someone from our team, so we can share their awesome work and impart some of their valuable advice too.

First up, James!

1.Who me?

James Butler

2. What do?

Day job - Concept/Visual Development Artist, Illustrator, Storyboarder

Cat & Moth - Visual Development Artist

3. What do I do in my spare time?

  • Apart from working on my own art I am a very keen motorsports fan and classic car enthusiast. I love to drive!! I also like to generally get out and see the world outside

4. A Motto you live by?

  • “You have ONE life, live it and be sure to make the most of each day because you never know that it could be over tomorrow!!”

5. What's my favourite cake?

  • Oooh, good one but I would have to say Strawberry Victoria Sponge Cake.

6. Why did I decide to work on an independent project?

  • I decided to work on an independent project because I sensed there was an air of commitment and passion that I hadn’t seen before on similar projects I have worked on in the past. There is a lot of good people involved in this team!!

7. What advice would I give to others considering working on side projects in their spare time?

  • My advice?? Think carefully about how much time you can commit to the project and research the project well before you make any advances to join the team if you see a suitable available role. Make sure there is commitment from the team leaders and see if you can find out there is a good working project plan in operation to avoid disappointment if the project happens to fail. Personal experience has proven that a project failure can be a real confidence shaker as you cannot get time or wasted effort back!

8. What have I learnt from working on Cat & Moth?

  • I have learnt a lot about good team interaction as being freelance has often meant solitary working conditions but the online setups with C&M have been great and very well organised. Working in Visual Development in a more animated style has been fun too as my most recent work has all been in more realistic styles, so to go with something new is a refreshing change.

9. Ditto or Monty?

  • I would have to say Ditto as she has such character and her design and model is so cute but Monty has his charms too and my pet dog shares the same name with him so I can relate there!
